What Will Happen In 2025
I've done a lot of these January 1st look forward posts in the 20+ years I've been blogging. I've used many different approaches. I sometimes talk big themes, like I did last year. I sometimes focus on just one thing. And sometimes I just make a bunch of predictions. I am going to do the latter approach today because I feel like it and it's so much fun. 1/ Apple and Google will leverage their existing market power to surpass OpenAI/ChatGPT in consumer AI prompts by the end of 2025. 2/ Waymo w...

The Farcaster community gets together every year in a community-produced event called Farcon. It took place the first few days of May this year in Brooklyn. Dan Romero, co-founder and CEO of Farcaster, asked me to do a fireside chat with him and while I'm trying to do less of this sort of things these days, that was an invitation I could not resist.
Dan took me on a trip down career memory lane. The result is a powerful argument for protocols over platforms.
See for yourself. It's just over thirty minutes and there are quite a few highlights in here.

Back w/ the 41st edition of Paragraph Picks, shining a light on some great posts from the past week or so ⤵️
@darkstar critiques crypto’s obsession with infrastructure metrics and algorithmic growth, urging builders and investors to refocus on human users, durable products, and long-term impact. "Success in crypto has become a loop of infrastructure funding itself — with little regard for actual adoption." https://darkstarcrashes.xyz/build-for-humans-not-hashrates
@debbie profiles @ted, a Farcaster OG & power user turned team member, whose journey from aspiring doctor to DeFi to Farcaster shows how belief, curiosity, and connection can reshape the internet. "You realize just how steep the climb is to make consumer crypto work. But being part of such a focused and passionate team makes it all feel worthwhile." https://paragraph.com/@debbie/meet-a-maverick-ted
@dbarabander writes about how a decentralized ecosystem of autonomous agents (if it emerges) will require crypto to provide the trust, payments, and verifiability needed to function at scale in a low-trust environment. "It will be very difficult for the agents in the long tail to build the sufficient reputation needed to earn the imprimatur of trust." https://blog.variant.fund/agents-in-a-bazaar
HI Casters. I posted the talk that @dwr and I did at Farcon to avc.xyz this morning https://avc.xyz/farcon-fireside

LOVED especially fred's pithily memorable mantra... BBAEABAEMO (bae-bae-mo sounds like a surfer’s mindset maybe make suno song like the beach boys cocomo for bbaeabaemo re riding out the waves and cycles) believe before anybody else and believe after everyone moves on 2 humble suggestions (covered more evocatively in my muji-fied walk and talk on the wild west side of manhattan) 1) this would have worked even better in FC's native peripatetic media format the walk and talk 2) the wild west (@ 19:43) is the wrong name/frame/analogy for the now moment in crypto and it's not just fred and dan i've heard this a lot lately many well-meaning builders and investors with really good values like decentralization and content-neutrality are excitedly touting this moment in crypto as the "wild west" that frame won't age well PS didn't have time to cover in vid but iterating upon new name/frame/world for new era in crypto stability and equanimity hope to will cover in subsequent WnT
@mjc716 — this is a wild west side walk n talk prompted by dan/fred's talk at uvc but primarily addressing the crypto space's use of the WILD WEST analogy to describe the current moment in crypto I happen to thing that's a dangerous name/frame/analogy that won't age well would love to add it to your new miniapp @walkntalk
